Altitude illness is a major concern when traveling to Himalayas. The higher you go, less oxygen there is to consume. Thin air of Himalayas can cause you anywhere from minor headache to life threatening circumstance. Acclimatization is one of the most important aspects of Altitude illness prevention. Proper acclimatization helps maintain and improve sleep, comfort but physical activities will be bit reduced compare to lower altitude. In extreme High altitude area, we generally descend to reasonable altitude for overnight sleep. We also bring oxy-meter, supplementary oxygen and gamow bag in extreme high altitude in case we have to use one. We strongly urge to visit Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Altitude Illness) website for more detail up to date information on Altitude Illness, including use of prescription drugs for treatment.
